The term “express one number as a percentage of another” means to compare two numbers by showing what portion of one number is represented by the other number in terms of a percentage.
Let’s say you have a bag of 20 candies, and 5 of them are red. To express the number of red candies as a percentage (or express as percentage) of the total candies, you would calculate it like this:
5 (number of red candies) / 20 (total candies) = 0.25
To express this as a percentage, you would multiply by 100:
0.25 x 100 = 25%
So, 5 red candies is 25% of the total 20 candies.
You have 10 pieces of candy. 3 of them are chocolate. To express the number of chocolate candies as a percentage of the total number of candies, you would divide 3 by 10 and multiply by 100.
3 ÷ 10 = 0.3
0.3 x 100 = 30%
So, 3 chocolate candies is 30% of 10 candies.
You have 50 marbles. 10 of them are blue. To express the number of blue marbles as a percentage of the total number of marbles, you would divide 10 by 50 and multiply by 100.
10 ÷ 50 = 0.2
0.2 x 100 = 20%
So, 10 blue marbles is 20% of 50 marbles.
