expressing percentage multiplier

percentage multiplication formula

\frac{a\times b}{100}=\frac{a}{100}\times\frac{b}{100}

Percentage multiplication is when you take a percentage of a number by multiplying it by that percentage.

Simple Illustration for Percentage Multiplier

Let’s say you have a candy shop. You sell 100 candies in a day, and you make a profit of 10% on each candy. To find out how much money you made from the 10% profit, you would use percentage multiplication.

Solution

First, you take the 10% and change it to a decimal by moving the decimal point two places to the left, so it becomes 0.10. Then, you multiply this decimal by the total number of candies sold (100).

0.10 x 100 = 10

You made $10 from the 10% profit on the candies sold that day.

Example 2

Another example is if you have a pizza with 8 slices, and you want to eat 25% of the pizza. To find out how many slices that is, you would use percentage multiplication.

First, change the 25% to a decimal by moving the decimal point two places to the left, so it becomes 0.25. Then, you multiply this decimal by the total number of slices in the pizza (8).

0.25 x 8 = 2

You would eat 2 slices, or 25%, of the pizza.
